Farepak

Katy and other MPs meeting Gordon Brown to put the case for Farepak customers in November 2007.

Katy is campaigning for justice for victims for the Farepak victims who lost out when the Christmas saving company collapsed in 2006. None of the Farepak victims have had their money returned although they received approximately £8 million raised by charity in the lead up to Christmas 2006.

Katy is campaigning for the Farepak customers to get their money back. It is believed that the Farepak customers are still out of pocket in the region of a further £25 million - £30 million. More than 200 MPs have signed the Parliamentary Motion which Katy has put down at Westminster calling for justice for the Farepak customers. The administrators who were appointed after the Christmas saving company collapsed are expected to report in the next few weeks.

Katy said "After that I hope that regulation will be brought in to ensure that this does not happen again. At the moment what is known as the "pre payment" industry which targets those on low incomes is not regulated so legislation is essential - and the Farepak customers need their money back."

The Parliamentary Motion reads "That this House notes that over a year has passed since the Christmas saving company Farepak collapsed; further notes that the collapsed forced many families into the arms of debt lenders who charge extortionate rates of interest; believes that the victims of Farepak are entitled to justice and that those responsible for the Farepak collapse should be held accountable for their actions; notes that many of the innocent victims of the Farepak collapse have not received any compensation; believes that compensation must now be made available; and calls upon the Government to introduce legislation to ensure that a Farepak-style collapse cannot happen again and for the Government to publish the report into the collapse of Farepak."
