Local MP Katy Clark has today pledged her support for renewable energy sources and calling upon the Government to add measures introducing renewable energy tariffs, which would allow renewable energy sources to enter the National Grid at a reduced cost. The local MP is asking that the Energy Bill which is due to come before the House of Commons again later this year is amended to enable this to happen.

“Given the serious threat that climate change poses to the UK the Government needs to look at ways to significantly reduce the nation’s dependence on fossil fuels. The Energy Bill provides an excellent opportunity to do this and introducing feed-in tariffs for renewable energy sources would provide a real long term boost to the renewable energy industry and could allow the UK to gradually move away from it’s reliance on coal, oil and natural gas’

‘The Government has demonstrated its support for combating climate change with the introduction of the Climate Change Bill and could really demonstrate it’s commitment to helping the UK to become a world leader in the renewable energy industry by acting decisively and strengthening the Energy Bill in this way ”

The MP for North Ayrshire and Arran will be campaigning with colleagues in Parliament, non-governmental organisations, Trade Unions and representatives from the renewable energy industry to try and persuade the Government to strengthen the Energy Bill in this way.
