Sixth year pupil Kimberley Wafer from Garnock Academy was presented with a prize at Kilbirnie’s Yuletide Day for academic excellence and the top policy idea in Modern Studies.

Last year Kimberley had the highest marks Higher Modern Studies. Kimberley drafted a policy idea to bring more jobs to the Garnock Valley. Her suggestion included encouraging businesses to employ people locally, and redeveloping existing properties to re-establish local business.

Katy Clark MP presented the prize to Kimberley. Speaking at the presentation she said, “I am honoured to be able to present this prize to Kimberley for her outstanding work in Modern Studies, and her unemployment policy for Garnock Valley.”

Mr McNaught from Garnock Academy said, “I am very pleased that Kimberley has won this award as she had consistently excelled in Modern Studies and she has a particular interest in politics.”
