The local North Ayrshire and Arran MP Katy Clark welcomed the government’s new campaign “It’s your call” on the national minimum wage. The campaign aims to increase awareness about the national minimum wage and targets employers to ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities.

Speaking on the issue Katy said, “I welcome this campaign which will boost awareness on the national minimum wage and help expose cases of underpayment in North Ayrshire and Arran.”

Katy continued, “Currently in the UK over 1 million people are benefiting from the national minimum wage which was introduced by the Labour government in 1998. In October this year the government increased the minimum wage to £5.73 for people aged over 22, £4.77 for 18-21 year olds, and £3.53 for 16-17 year olds. I hope that we will see further significant increases in the minimum wage. ”

A Minimum Wage freephone helpline is available to anyone who seeks further information or support on 0845 6000 678 who wishes advice about the minimum wage or a has information that the minimum wage has not been complied with.

“The Minimum Wage is one of the greatest gains for people at work over the past decade. The “It’s your call” campaign helps to ensure that everyone knows there rights and responsibilities as employees or employers. The helpline and the campaign will provide information and support to those most at risk of underpayment in North Aryshire and Arran. I urge any of my constituents who have queries about national minimum wage to contact either my office or the helpline on 0845 6000 678.”
