Katy Clark MP for North Ayrshire and Arran has called for the re-regulation of bus services across Ayrshire. Katy Clark MP said, “Bus service after bus service gets withdrawn from local communities with no consultation at the whim of the private bus companies and the only way to deal with this problem and to go back to a service which the public can rely on and which companies are required to provide is to go back to re regulation. I am fed up with local constituents suffering from the withdrawal of key bus services and I know that many people locally are furious about it.

Allowing the private sector to exclusively provide an essential public service, which many people, particularly pensioners are dependent on has lead to deteriorating services. Too often services are cut because private companies put profits before services, which can be seen in the continual withdrawal of less profitable routes. Katy continued, “By re-regulating the bus service it would bring an end to the strangle hold that some private companies hold over local communities which are reliant on local buses ."
