Local MP Katy Clark met with Vodafone this week to put forward the case against the erection of a mobile phone mast at Stanley School and voice the strong concerns of the local community against such a mast.

Vodafone have asked the local community for examples of alternative places that such a mast could be erected. The planning application is currently being considered by the North Ayrshire Council planning committee.

Several local groups have raised objections to this proposal for various reasons including the concerns regarding health. Despite reassurance from phone companies that masts are safe, there is an increasing level of research which raises doubts over this claim. With this phone mast placed in such close proximity to a primary school, many parents are deeply concerned about the long term impact this may have on their child’s health.

Katy said, “In circumstances such as this, it is imperative that a precautionary approach is taken. Vodafone should recognise the strong objections put forward not only by parents but also by many other local groups.

The local MP continued “Vodafone are well aware of the strength of community opposition to the erection of the mobile phone mast but seem to be set to continue regardless. Over the coming days it is vital that as many people as possible make clear their views on this proposal. I very much hope North Ayrshire Council find a way to refuse this application given the strength of community opposition.”

Katy said, “Vodafone is holding a drop in session at the Lauriston Hotel, Ardrossan next Monday 23 February 3pm to 7 pm to discuss their proposals. All are welcome to attend so this is another way to pop in to make sure the community’s voice is heard.”
