Katy Clark MP paid tribute to those who had lost their lives or been injured at work on International Workers Memorial Day, 28th April 2009.
Workers Memorial Day honours those who have been killed, injured or diseased at work.
Katy said, “Workers Memorial Day is an important date in the calendar as it gives us the chance to commemorate those who have lost their lives at work and the families they have left behind.”
“Health and Safety at work is vitally important and Britain has a record to proud of due to the commitment and work of our Government and Trade Unions.”
The Government added its support and announced that it will consider official recognition of Workers Memorial Day in the future.
Katy continued, “It is vital that we continue to take action to ensure health and safety for our workforce. I was glad to hear that the Government is launching a new consultation to look at giving official recognition to the day in the future. Not only will it acknowledge the huge effects that injuries at work has on the victims and their families but will also act as a reminder of the constant need for action.”
