Local MP Katy Clark has urged miners in North Ayrshire and Arran who suffer from Osteoarthritis of the knee, commonly known as Miners Knee, to start claiming Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit.
Katy welcomed the news back in April that the Government was to add Osteoarthritis of the knee to the list of prescribed diseases and it was announced that as of last week miners who worked for 10 years or more underground before 1986 can start claiming Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit.
Katy said, “I was delighted back in April that after years of campaigning the announcement was made that miners suffering from miner’s knee would be compensated. Now the scheme has started I would urge all those living in North Ayrshire and Arran suffering from the condition to apply.”
An application form and advice regarding an individual’s eligibility can be given by contacting the Scottish Regional Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit Delivery Centre on 0845 608 8967.
