Local MP Katy Clark has placed her support behind International Walk to School Month.
International Walk to School Month runs throughout the month of October and urges parents and children to leave the car behind as much as possible and walk to school instead.
Katy said, "Walk to School Month is a good way of promoting healthy living and exercise. It is well documented that Scotland has a problem with obesity and schemes such as this are vital in changing our mindsets about how we travel. Regular walking can have a huge impact on peoples health and how they live their lifes. Children are recommended to particpate in 60 minutes exercise each day and walking to school eachday will help reach that target."
"I understand that it is not possible in some cases for parents to walk their children to school every morning. However, hopefully most will be able to take part in Walk to School Month at some point during October."
