MP Labels Bike Tax ‘Crazy’

North Ayrshire and Arran MP Katy Clark has labeled the SNPs plans for a Bike tax as ‘crazy’.

In a recent consultation document the SNP asked whether all road users should pay tax and if so what should cyclists pay to use roads.

Katy said, “We have targets to meet in terms of climate change and the general health of Scotland. Taxing people for leaving their cars at home and cycling would have the opposite effect and suggest that the SNP is not serious about its commitments on climate change and tackling Scotland’s health problems.”

“We should be trying to make Scotland a greener country not pushing people off their bikes and back into their cars by introducing a cash disincentive.”

Scottish Labour has criticised these plans and have setup a petition for people to show their opposition. The petition can be found at www.scottishlabour.org.uk/nobiketax
