Katy Welcomes Labours Commitment to NHS

North Ayrshire and Arran MP Katy Clark welcomed the strong commitment to NHS from Andy Burnham, Health Secretary, at last weeks Labour Party Conference .

During his speech Mr Burnham criticised Tory MEP Daniel Hannan's statement that the NHS was a 60 year mistake and declared the care it provides 'simply could not be better'.

Katy said, "Labour established the NHS and since 1997 have invested money needed to make a real difference to people's health care."

“The Conservatives contempt for our health service is astonishing. David Cameron may pledge his support for the NHS and say that it will be in safe hands under a Conservative government but, you merely need to remember the last Conservative Government to have made such promises and examine the mess they left when they left."

"We need investment in our hospitals. I note the SNP's proposed budget for 2010/11 shows a drop in real terms of 1.4% on Health and Wellbeing spending. The money allocated to Health Boards will also be £95million less than previously planned. This is not the way to improve our hospitals."
